Mindo, an encounter with nature

Early in the morning you will start your tour heading into the cloudy forest of Mindo, only 2 hours northwest from Quito. Here you will visit the Orchid Reserve of El Pahuma, where the colors and perfumes from many different species this formidable plant. This place is the home to many epiphytes and mosses native to this region. There are also several paths that lead to a beautiful hidden waterfall with transparent water.

Mindo is a privileged place for birdwatching and the sighting of exotic butterflies. You will be surrounded by colorful hummingbirds and the very own Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, as well as many other native species that will captivate you in every moment of this trip. Mindo is also the perfect spot for your inner adventurer, with a great variety of adrenaline sports, such as canopy, tubbing or canyoning.

Papallacta, a Paradise sorrounded by mountains

Papallacta is located only 2 hours away from Quito on the road to the Amazonas. It is sorrounded by the Andean paramo, full of colorful landscapes and gorgeous lagoons.

This unique place is the perfect spot for relaxation with its different thermal baths supplied by water from volcanic origin and known for its mineral components that will benefit your health in many ways.

You can also enjoy a spa day at the same facilities.

The volcanoes Antisana and Cayambe beautifully surround Papallacta and are both protected areas because of their unique flora and fauna, which gives this place the perfect ambience to disconnect from the world for a few hours.

You will be back in Quito in the afternoon with your batteries completely recharged.

Cotopaxi National Park, the Avenue of the Volcanoes in all its splendor

You will start your trip early in the morning following the Avenue of the Volcanoes to the Cotopaxi National Park, home to the volcano Cotopaxi (5897 meters)

On the way your first stop will be the lagoon of Limpiopungo, the perfect spot for birdwatching, for example gulls and the Andean duck. With a bit of luck you can also spot wild horses and you will definitively enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Andean paramo with its endemic plants.

You can also appreciate several other elevations, such as the Rumiñahui, the Sincholahua and the Cotopaxi. From there you will drive up to the highest car park, from where you can start a small hike of around 40 minutes on a steep trail that takes you to the José Rivas refuge at as high as 4800 meters

Following this adventure, you can relax with a visit to a rose plantation, where you will learn about the production and farming of the best roses in Ecuador, known for their quality and unique beauty all over the world. This visit can be done from Monday to Friday.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, you can also visit an indigenous market in the area with a private tour.

Otavalo, a celebration of color and traditions

Early in the morning you will start your trip up north, to the province of Imbabura. On the way you will pass the valley of Guayllabamba, known for its warm climate and the production of the Chirimoya, an exotic fruit that you can taste while stopping at this place. From a small viewpoint surrounded by carob trees you will sight the volcano Cayambe and enjoy the city named after this gorgeous mountain. Here you can taste the bizcocho, a typical bakery good from this area, served with leaf cheese and Ecuadorian toffee or the exquisite blackberry syrup from Ibarra.

The tour continues to the famous viewpoint Miralago, located on the foot of the volcano Imbabura offering its visitors a beautiful view over the lake San Pablo, a must-see and perfect spot for pictures. From there you will continue straight to the Poncho Square, where the market of Otavalo takes place and one of the most visited spots in Ecuador due to the tradition and culture that are represented in this place.  This colorful market is full of different textiles, most of them handmade. On Saturdays this market explodes even more in the most colorful urban landscape you can imagine filling not only the square itself, but many of the streets surrounding it.

You will spend the afternoon in Cotacachi, a town known for the great varieties of leather, fabricated in the same región. From here you can visit the lagoon Cuicocha (the lake of the guinea pigs), from volcanic origin, famous for its turquiose water and located in the ecological reserve Cotacachi-Cayapas. This landscape invites everyone to enjoy a small walk or take a tour on one of the boats offered directly at the location.

After this impressive experiencie you will head back to Quito.

Quilotoa, a landscape full of colors

Your adventure starts early in the morning heading south on the Avenue of the Volcanoes to the town of Pujili, which means “home of toys” in Quichua. This town is known for its colorful indigenous market that takes place every Wednesday and Sunday and for its beautiful landscapes of the Andean paramo.

From here your trip continues to Zumbahua, where you will find one of the most impressive and beautiful lagoons of the world, the Quilotoa, with approximately 250 meters of depth and of volcanic origin. Around the lagoon you can see many different species of flora such as chuquiragas, South American lupins, Gynoxys acostae, blueberries, Oreopanax ecuadorensis, podocarpus, cortaderia nitida and many more. You might also be able to spot animals like the paramo wolf, foxes, rabbits, deer, and little red brockets, among many others.

You will be able to take a walk around the lagoon down a steep path or just take a breath of fresh air and enjoy the calm landscape of this beautiful place.

Antisana, a journey through the magical land of the Andean paramo and Highland forests

This adventure starts heading southeast of Quito to the natural reserve Antisana, home to the majestic volcano with the same name. The reserve is known to be one of the most beautiful reserves in Ecuador and is ideal for hikes, bike rides, photography, mountain climbing and camping.

You will drive through the paramo and the Andean forests and grasslands, which are the home to a great variety of flora and fauna. It could be possible to sight a spectacled bear, little red brockets, white-tailed deer, pudus, condors, carunculated caracaras and Andean gulls.

On sunny days the volcano Antisana shows its beauty covered in glaciers and snow as the fourth highest volcano of Ecuador. One of the most attractive places of the reserve is the lagoon La Mica, which is very important to Quito, as it is the main source of fresh water.
